1. Chinatown Volunteer Opportunity (Aug 1) !

    Hey Ascend Members! Here is a service opportunity for everyone to join. Volunteers are needed THIS SUNDAY (Aug. 1) at the 2010 Chinatown Summer Street Festival to help children with arts and crafts activities for an event hosted by the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families.

    Calling All Volunteers!

    The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF), the nation’s only pan-Asian children’s advocacy organization, aims to improve the health and well-being of Asian Pacific American children and families in New York. The 2010 Chinatown Summer Street Festival is hosted by one of CACF’s partner organizations, Asian Americans for Equality. To learn more about the festival, go to http://www.aafe.org/.

    The NY Chapter of Ascend is looking for both professional and student volunteers to help facilitate children’s arts and crafts activities which include making Chinese dragon streams, Japanese fish kites, Nepali butterflies and Hawai’ian leis out of construction paper, glue, stickers, string, scissors and more!
     
    Volunteers are asked to arrive promptly at 10 AM and anticipate finishing at 4 PM. The day will begin with orientation/training and set-up of activities, with breaks during the day for lunch as well as to check out the rest of the festival.
